Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) has inaugurated the first piped natural gas (PNG) connection in Raiganj, located in North Dinajpur district, marking a significant step toward expanding clean energy access in the region.
The inaugural connection was provided at the residence of Jayanta Narayan Das in Tulsitala, ward five of Raiganj town. The rollout is part of HPCL’s ongoing City Gas Distribution (CGD) programme.
Officials noted that recent policy support from the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is helping fast-track approvals for CGD projects nationwide, accelerating infrastructure development and expanding PNG coverage in smaller towns and semi-urban areas. According to company sources, around 1,300 households in Kanki and Jalpaiguri have already been connected to PNG supply.
The project is also progressing in Siliguri, with plans to extend services to Bagdogra. Additionally, PNG connections have been approved for the Sevoke Military Station, further broadening the network’s reach.
HPCL has also signed an agreement with Luxmi Township & Holding Limited to supply PNG to the Uttorayon township in Siliguri’s Matigara area through a decompression unit, supporting the continued expansion of clean energy infrastructure in the region.
